Temporary Resident Visa

Most foreign nationals must apply for and obtain a Temporary resident visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to travel to Canada. Some persons may be exempt on the basis of nationality, possession of certain documents or specific reasons of entry.

The TRV allows a Foreign National to enter and remain in Canada temporarily, for maximum of 6 months. If a Foreign national wants to stay longer in Canada, there is an option of applying for extension.

To qualify for a TRV, an applicant must prove that he/she has the capacity and also has strong ties to his/her home country to ensure that he/she is motivated and willing to leave Canada at the end of the authorized temporary period.

BE AWARE, WITHOUT valid work permit or study permit, a foreign national is not allowed to work or study in Canada, unless exceptions apply.
